Phone line test

Gateway 2000 provides a means for doing this:

• Click Start, Programs, Accessories, and HyperTerminal.
• Make a new connection by first clicking on the "Hyperterminal" icon.
• Type the name "Gw2kbbs" and click Next.
• For the phone number, type 1-800-846-7562 and click Next twice and then click Dial. This will call Gateway's BBS.
• Enter the registration information as it appears.
• When you get to the screen that says, File Library, type +++ but don't press Enter. You should receive an "OK" below the +s.
• Type aty11 and press enter. This will give you 2 columns of numbers. The first column is the Frequency and the second column is the Noise Ratio in decibels. The second column should be in the 20's; if it is higher, you have a noisy phone line and you may need to talk to your phone company about improving your phone line quality.
• To exit this screen, type ato0, press Enter, and press "x" to exit the BBS.
